Windows Version. Spaceward Ho! Dark Forces was one of the first Star Wars first-person shooters, released in , just two years after the first Doom. Their new engine allowed the developers to create more varied, and bigger levels and higher fidelity graphics. Players take on the role of Kyle Katarn, a mercenary hired by the Rebel Alliance to first get the plans to the Death Star later retconned by Rogue One, of course and then investigate the creation of Dark Troopers.

Dark Forces, while no longer cannon, laid the groundwork for several major elements of the Star Wars universe even now — Kyle Katarn and Dark Troopers are both part of the new Disney cannon. It follows a similar structure to the original Star Wars: Battlefront games in that its primary single-player mode is Galactic Conquest, where players must conquer the galaxy as the Empire, or liberate it as the Rebels. Empire at War features an entire galaxy for the player to tackle.

A great deal of strategy comes in deciding to attack a resource-producing planet, its weapon and production facilities, or its bonuses conferred to various unit types.

This is an inventive, smart, and deep racing game that requires strategy. It is then up to you to guide this emerging race into the void, and turn this humble beginning into a mighty empire able to crush the other races in the galaxy. A small story is written in the nice in-game helpfile system, explaining how the galaxy formed and why you have limitations such as not being able to cross the borders of the galaxy map.

Created in the era of the elderly Windows 3. Not only did Stars! For example, the size and lack of entry in the registry allows you to carry the game on a USB stick and play on any computer as long as you are aware and wary of the cheat protection. The interface and spartan graphics, reminiscent of the old Windows 3. Obviously designed with the limitation of the antique system in mind, they both do excel in their practicality.

This game also does not support music at all and barely even supports sound effects, depending on the version you are using. Obviously done to, again, keep the file size very small, it does help in the long run to concentrate on the task at hand when playing. With the game taking so little resources on its own to run on your computer, it is also a simple matter to open your favorite music player to listen to music you actually like, instead of always listening to the same boring synthesizer music, which is a problem that plagues a lot of other older games.

Since all the game core files can be stored on a single floppy, it is easy to simply carry the game and your turn to any other 16 or 32bit compatible computer and play from there While XP works without a hitch, the 64bit Vista systems are not compatible.

If you do not want to mess around with compatibility settings, DOSBox can be used in conjunction with Windows 3. The game will simply create a harmless configuration file on the new machine in your Windows default directory so that it is able to save your configuration preferences and serial key Vista, again, by default doesn't allow you to do that: you will need to redo your configuration and enter your serial key every time you play unless you are willing to mess around for a workaround. It is also interesting to note that Stars!

One aspect of the game which was really refreshing to see, is the fact that the AIs don't cheat, a point which greatly differs from the vast majority of the other well established 4X series.

The most humanoid PRT. JoaT races do not excel in any one particular area, but do have a generally higher production ability and possess advanced scanning technology not available to anyone else. Inner guidance allows this PRT to defend with supernatural ability and to develop other defensive technologies far beyond those of other races.

They have exclusive armor and shielding, as well as the revered Super-Freighter design. Advanced warship technology gives major advantages in ship design, although this race suffers in the defense department. This race's ability to self-destruct their own mine-fields, and to produce exclusive Heavy Mine Dispensers makes them a difficult foe to conquer.

Able to destroy an entire planet's population in a single blow, this PRT should be the most feared, although it is usually overlooked by players looking for a battle rather than doomsday weapon. This race types strongest asset is the ability to terraform planets in a fraction of the time that its neighbors can, giving it a decisive advantage in the political arena.

Jump gate technology reaches its high point in the development of this PRTs evolution, eventually allowing infinite distances to be traversed with any sort of vessel. These two-deminsional beings prefer to live in starbases rather than on planets, and their populations can reach incredible proportions.

Once they can build the Death Star, the other races may have a problem on their hands. Multiplayer for Stars! One player would be set up as the game's "host", generating game files to be emailed to the game's other players. Those players would then take their turn and send the results back to the host for integration into the master game.
